As the Items move through the supply chain, wireless RFID readers can communicate with RFID tag on the item collecting information about it, carried by the tag such as a unique number (electronic product code EPC) and match that number in a database to access a complete record about the item. RFID is a real time technology that provides speed and accuracy in supply chain management with its open standard of the electronic product code as a key information tool in the supply chain. EPC- RFID has great potential to deliver bottom- line business benefits on a mass scale.
