The Gs1 Id Keys are classified into seven types:

1-  Global Trade Item Number (GTIN):
It is a number that is dedicated to any item (product or service) to help automating all trading processes at any point within the supply chain.
GTIN is employed to retrieve predefined information about the item through reading the Gs1 Bar code and exchange messages via Gs1 e com or access GDSN.

There are four ways to create a GTIN:

  • GTIN-14 data structure

2-   Global Location Number (GLN):
Global Location Number (GLN) is a number allocated for Locations that can be used to identify physical locations and legal entities where there is a need to retrieve pre-defined information in order to develop an efficient communication with the supply-chain. Global Location Numbers are a prerequisite for GS1 eCOM messages or to access information from the Global Data Synchronization Network.

The GLN is constructed as follows:

GS1 Company Prefix > < Location Reference

3-  Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC)
The SSCC is the GS1 Identification Key for an item of any composition established for transport and/or storage that needs to be managed through the supply chain. The SSCC is assigned for the lifetime of the transport item and is a mandatory element on the GS1 Logistic Label using the Application Identifier (00).

The SSCC is created as follows:

4-  Global Returnable Asset Identifier (GRAI)
The GRAI is the GS1 Identification Key for any types of reusable package or transport equipment that are considered an asset. In addition, it is used to enable tracking as well as recording of all relevant data associated with the individual asset or asset reference. In addition, GRAI is assigned for the lifetime of the asset and may be bar coded using the Application Identifier (8003)

The GRAI is constructed as follows:

GS1 Company Prefix > < Asset Reference

5-  Global Individual Asset Identifier (GIAI)
The GIAI is the GS1 Identification Key employed in a diverse range of business applications, ranging from tracking prodcts to recording the life-cycle history of aircraft parts. The GIAI is assigned by the owner of the asset and may be bar coded using the Application Identifier (8004)

The GIAI is constructed as:

GS1 Company Prefix > < Individual Asset Reference >

N1... Ni

Xi+1... Xj (j<=30)

6-  Global Service Relation Number (GSRN)

Moreover, GSRN is used so as to enable access to a database entry for recurring service recording. The GSRN is normally assigned by the service provider and may be bar coded using the Application Identifier (8018).

The GSRN is constructed as follows:

GS1 Company Prefix > < Service Reference
